Talc, the softest of all minerals is known to
everyone because of talcum powder. The softness, flakiness, and stability of talc makes it
a desirable substance for many purpose. In industry it is mainly classified into hard
& soft and fibrous & flaky. It is a platy mineral used for its reinforcing
properties.
Talc is commonly used as the functional filler for the plastics, and
as an extender & pigments for paints. Finely ground talc is widely used in the
polypropylene industry for its reinforcing properties. In plastics it adds to the
stiffness, dimensional stability, flexural modulus and resistance to creep. It also
contributes to good flow, surface appearance and easier machinability of polymers. In
plastics, the primary use area of talc is in Polypropylene (PP). |
