Barite
is a heavy mineral, which is inert and
very much stable in nature. These properties
makes it valuable for the commercial
use in various industries. Ground Barytes
is used mostly as an inert volume and
weight filler in oil-well-drilling mud.
It is also used in the paint industry
as an extender. Barytes is used as a
heavy additive in the paper & rubber
industries. It is used as a filler or
extender in cloth, ink, and plastics
products. It is also used in radiography
("barium milkshake"). It is
used as a deoxidizer for copper; lubricant
for anode rotors in X-ray tubes; spark-plug
alloys. Also used to make an expensive
white pigment.
